Global warming is a threat that all humans have in common, and will continue to threaten the earth as long as energy is recklessly consumed. America needs to be a leader in the fight to stem the pace of increase in global average temperature, by coming up with a national energy policy, something we currently lack. We need leadership from Washington that will spur the country to employ the full arsenal of energy weapons: wind power, bio-fuels, synthetic fuels, coal gasification, conservation strategies, hybrid electric vehicles and others. These are no longer the dreamy ideas they once were. They are real, ready and proven solutions, and they are crying out to be used in defense of a healthy planet for generations to come. These alternatives have an added benefit: they will help us reduce our dependence on foreign dictators and their oil. Sadly, none of these alternative energy methods are particularly novel. They have been around a long time. Wind was one of man’s earliest energy sources, and coal and crops were being turned into liquid fuels 100 years ago. Yet the U.S. Government has never felt bothered to come up with a comprehensive energy policy to convert this nation to become a consumer of clean, domestic energy. I’d say such a policy is long overdue, and I¹m marching so that the President and the Congress will think about giving assistance to producers of clean energy, rather than their friends in the oil business.
