Mayor George Heartwell, Grand Rapids, MI
- Location: MI 49503
- Marching Since: December 06, 2005
The job of saving the planet-reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving water quality, and protecting species-is in the hands of local governments and individuals. Though we must advocate for federal standards, the most dramatic impact on our environmental quality will take place because individuals citizens take the responsibility for tending the planet. Mayors must improve public transportation, reduce urban sprawl, remove sources of air and water pollution, and reduce the use of toxic chemicals in their communities. The future of the environment rests with mayors and citizens of communities all over this nation and world.
