The world’s population is approaching 7 billion people and growing by approximately 75 million each year. Economic development is essential if we are to provide every human being with the food, housing, healthcare and quality of life they deserve. A vital requirement for economic growth is available and affordable energy. By 2015, the world will require 30 percent more energy than is produced today. Sustainable growth requires our commitment to the intelligent development of conventional energy resources, use of the most modern energy technologies, expansion of renewable energy sources, and conservation of demand. For future generations, we must both meet our energy needs and protect our environment, including the control of global warming.
