Global warming is real, and it is happening now. The overwhelming scientific consensus is that global warming poses a serious danger to everyone, including the citizens of Illinois. In this state, global warming, left unchecked over time, could cause serious harm to public health and the economy by lowering lake levels, increasing heat-related deaths, and causing more frequent flooding.
I believe it essential that we work together to fight climate change. To that end, I have joined in litigation with a coalition of other states seeking to compel the United States Environmental Protection Agency to fulfill its statutory mandate to regulate carbon dioxide, the most prevalent greenhouse gas. We will continue to work with other states that are concerned about climate change to find appropriate solutions.
