Conservation International is a non-partisan organization working with communities, the private sector, and governments worldwide to protect Earth’s natural riches – its biological diversity – that make up the delicately balanced ecosystems we depend on for our survival. Climate change today poses a substantial risk to the ecosystems that provide services all humans need: clean air and water, flood and climate control, soil regeneration, crop pollination, food, medicines, raw materials, and many others.>
Species are now disappearing between 100 to 1000 times faster than during the pre-human area, principally due to habitat loss caused by deforestation and urbanization. Unless we control greenhouse gas emissions, global warming by the end of this century will likely be the single greatest threat to flora and fauna as warming temperatures shrink habitat at an ever-increasing rate, forcing biodiversity to either adapt, move or die.
And when species disappear, nature suffers.
Extinctions weaken our ecosystems, increasing the threat to human survival. Climate change is not an isolated issue. It is intimately connected to other recognized natural hazards, to global environmental problems, and most important of all, to our future well-being.
That is why Conservation International has joined the March to Stop Global Warming, and we encourage you to become part of this important effort as well.
