Simple Shoes
- Location:
- Marching Since: November 20, 2005
Hi, we’re Simple Shoes, the nice little shoe company from Santa Barbara, CA. We are so stinking exciting to be a part of what can be the largest pro-environment stand in history! It is great to see that there are so many important people involved! When the big wigs at Deckers Outdoor Corp asked us to support the march we immediately jumped errr… logged on. If virtually standing with guys like Larry David wasn’t enough (that’s right! we are soooo tight with Larry!), we also get to help save the planet!
When it comes to the health of planet Earth, we are all responsible. The damage left by hurricane Katrina is just an eye opener for how human activity can affect the climate. This virtual march is possibly the easiest way for your voice to be heard in such magnitude.
We are also proud to announce the introduction of our Green Toe* segment, which represents our first effort to use all natural materials, less glue, fewer toxins, and thus minimizing the ecological footprint made by shoes.
Think about the number of shoes that the world needs, (an easy way is to take the number of people in the world, and multiply it by the number of feet per person) I’m not very good at math, but that’s a heck of a lot of shoes nonetheless. The production of each of those shoes involves chemical treatments of rubber and textiles, methane blasts from cows that produce leather, not to mention cements and glues that are not exactly Elmer’s.
We’re making an effort to develop products that aren’t dependent on these environment-damaging practices. Our Green Toe products use jute (it’s a plant, I just learned that) and wool felt uppers, natural crepe rubber bottoms, and a cork and natural rubber pedbed* for tofu-like squishiness.
It’s not perfect yet, but it is a start. If you like to surf in safe water, breathe clean air, see trees in their natural setting, or hate wearing sunscreen please >join us to stop global warming. I doubt there is an easier way to help the planet right now.
