Year after year, we burn massive amounts of fossil fuels – oil, coal, and natural gas. The result is that we’ve profoundly warmed our planet’s atmosphere and oceans, which will trigger prolonged droughts, devastating famines, more severe hurricanes and catastrophic sea level rise. >
The actions we take now to curb global warming will determine the future of our planet, and a large part of the responsibility falls on the US’s shoulders. Home to only four percent of world population, the U.S. is responsible for 25 percent of the world’s CO2 emissions. We have an obligation to our children and grandchildren to help break our addiction to fossil fuels and lead the way towards a more peaceful, just and sustainable world.
Global warming is by far the most pressing environmental issue of our time. That’s why we fight for clean energy everywhere: in the statehouse, in the churches, in the schools, and on the street. But we can’t do it alone. The climate needs all the help it can get and that’s why we have joined the Stop Global Warming Virtual March on Washington and why we are asking CCAN supporters and their family and friends to do the same. Together, we will demand that Congress and the Bush Administration take the necessary and long overdue steps to reverse potentially catastrophic changes in the Earth’s climate.
