By using the name ‘TreeHugger’ we place our tongue firmly in our cheek – It’s a playful homage to the hippies that preceded us. In their Birkenstocks and tie-dyed Ts they agitated for peace on earth. Decades later the new mission is peace with earth. Instead of ‘opting out’, TreeHugger encourages opting in. Problems don’t go away just because they are ignored. They are overcome when someone takes action. That someone needs to be each of us.
Global warming is the biggest threat to life on earth, since, well, since a couple of big countries pointed nuclear warheads at other. But now the agents for change while still young, are decidedly more hip than hippy. After all, what could be more cool than saving a planet? But this is no slick sci-fi movie. There are no swashbuckling heroes, who’ll drop out of the sky at the last minute to rescue us. It ’s real, it’s now and we need to be the heroes. Each one of us. Individually.
The task is daunting, at times overwhelming. The stakes could not be higher. The life support system on our blue/green spaceship is damaged. TreeHugger has taken on the job of making accessible the tools to fix it. We point today’s heroes toward the products and services that reduce the environmental impact human lives create. Plenty of others are adept at sounding the warnings, but we have tasked ourselves with highlighting the solutions. Like a green light over a doorway, showing the safe way forward.
TreeHugger is a daily updated weblog celebrating those green signs, wherever they appear. It is our humble delight to walk shoulder-to-shoulder with others on a similar mission as we march to stop Global Warming. Join us. Your planet needs you.
